International Automobile Show (Detroit Auto Show)
North America's premiere new car show. For anyone
into the new car scene, this is the largest and most influential new car show in America.
It always takes place at the beginning of January of each year.
Amelia
Island Concourse d Elegance
This concourse is, in my opinion, the most fun and
most user friendly of all the major concourses in the USA. The show takes place in Amelia
Island, Florida on the second week of March of each year. This show offers something for
everyone from vintage, classic, sports cars, and race cars. The field even includes
motorcycles and streetrods. I try not to miss this one.
New
York Auto Show
The New York show is not on the scale of the Detroit or LA
shows, but it is the biggest and most influential new car show on the east coast. This
show takes place in New York City the middle of April.
Spring
Carlisle (and many other events at Carlisle Fairgrounds)
Carlisle is an entire fairgrounds dedicated to automotive
events from April through October of each year in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The big general
flea markets that take place in spring (April) and fall (October) of each year are do-
not- miss events if you want to buy parts or cars. Also, don't forget the specialty events
such as the all-Ford weekend or the sport and import event.
New
Hampshire International Speedway Vintage Celebration
One of my favorite events and still not too crowded to
enjoy. This show includes two days of vintage circle track cars racing on the NHIS magic
mile, then three days of the vintage sports cars on the road course. Over the weekend, an
open car show that draws a large numbers of cars from the New England country side
surrounds the track. The weekend finishes off with a concourse including some of the best
cars in country.
The
Pebble Beach Concourse d Elegance
The granddaddy of all concourse in the United States. This
event is still the pinnacle of quality and competition for vintage show cars. The event,
on the 18th green of the famed Pebble Beach golf course in Monterey, California, is
something that every serious vintage car fan should see once in their lives. Mark your
calendars for the third week of August every year.
Concorso
Italiano
Takes place practically next door to and on the same
weekend as the Pebble Beach concourse. This all-Italian car show is an event not to be
missed. Everything from classic era Alfa Romeos to brand new Lamborghinis come out in
force for what is undoubtedly the top Italian car show in the United States.
Monterey
Historic Races
Another event on the crowded Pebble Beach weekend also
located in the picture perfect Monterey Peninsula. If you love racing, then you will not
see another line-up of vintage race cars at speed as you will see here.
Radnor
Hunt Club Concours d Elegance
This small, but quality, event takes place in September on
the grounds of the Radnor (Pennsylvania) Hunt Club. The lovely horse country is a perfect
setting for a small but quality show.
Many
Rallies run by Vintage Rallies
Want to drive your 12-cylinder car in a time and distance
rally? These folks run the event for you. From their 12-cylinder only Milia Forza to their
open event in the Texas Hill country, some the best driving events available can be found
at this site.
